Jesuit outlasts Johnson in a muddy 24-0 shutout
by Sargon Benjamin
It was a cold and rainy day when the two titans collided on Saturday
the 24th of October. Under ranked as 3rd in the city, Jesuit battled number 4
Johnson for the game of the week, which would decide who would go on to be
Metro Champs. After winning the coin toss, Johnson started their drive
by throwing an interception on their third play. Although this turnover
helped the Marauders, Jesuit could not get their offensive game going due
to the slippery conditions. Consequently, the first quarter ended with
the score of 0-0.
Then, as the rain became stronger, so did the Jesuit
Marauders scoring off of K.C. Maxwell's running touchdown in the second
quarter. Because the field was so muddy, even the accurate kicker Jared
Siegal was not able to score on his extra point attempt, so the score
was 6-0 in favor of the Marauders. Overcoming his missed extra point,
Jared Siegal redeemed himself by scoring on a defensive touchdown by way
of interception, running the whole length of the field into the land of
quick six, helping Jesuit end the first quarter with a 12-0 lead. In the
second half, it was all Charles Bell and Jeff Reiman. Both of these
talented Juniors have proved to be exceptional athletes with great skills
on offense and defense. Charles Bell ran for a fifteen yard touchdown
early in the second half and Reiman later hammered his way through
Johnson's defense and the score board read 24-0 Jesuit. Jesuit had a solid
all around game with key players like Jeff Reiman, Charles Bell, and the
wet fans yelling in the cheering section.
The only aspect of the game that Jesuit could not grasp was the passing game due to the muddy
football. So, the offensive line took a great challenge by run blocking
almost the entire game. The big guys consisted of Ashur Benjamin, Nick
Clark, Scott "Boomer" Nygard, Joe De Anda, and Garth Peot. Near the
ending of the fourth quarter, the sun began to rise and the Marauders
knew they were victorious. Jesuit hopes to go undefeated and must do so
by first challenging Sacramento at home on Saturday, October 31 at 1:00
p.m. Be there to support the Marauders in the sixth man.
