Marauder Varsity Football goes undefeated
in the 1998-99 season.
by Sargon Benjamin

Running players     After listening to the National Anthem, the Seniors on the Marauder squad realized this was the last time they would hear the musical notes for a regular season game. With this thought in mind, the Seniors took on a great role in leading the rest of the Jesuit Varisty football team to a 52-28 victory over the Burbank Titans. Coming into the game against the big Titans, Jesuit was powered by an experienced and motivational coaching staff consisting of Head Coach Daniel Carmazzi, Line Coach Ross Evans, Coach Tim Beers, Coach George Harper, and other talented instructors. Coach Carmazzi had prepared his team for the game both mentally and physically knowing that this would be an emotional game for some of the Seniors.

It's GOOOOOOOOD!

The "play hard" mentality of the team could be seen from the get go when Jesuit stuffed the Titans' offense and put up a field goal after getting the ball back making the score 3-0 in favor of the Marauders. Then, as the clock kept ticking, the Marauder power roared through Mike gets a talking-to from Coach EvansBurbank's defense as Junior full back Jeff Reiman powered his way three yards to get into the endzone adding seven points to the score. The Marauder defense would do just the same when Junior defensive tackle Ashur Benjamin sacked the Titan quarterback on a third down play forcing the Titans to punt. The sack brought up the intensity of both the team and the crowd and could have been one of the major factors in the game. Then it was time for the almighty Pep Band lead by Mr. O'Neal to pump up the Marauders and they did just that when quarterback Brian Karns connected with Ryan Parilo for a forty yard touchdown pass the and the scoreboard read 17-0 Jesuit. Jesuit was too much too handle for the Burbank Titans and that could be seen when the first half ended with Jesuit up 24-0.

It's a little picture.     The second half was a mirror image of the first with both Jeff Reiman and Charles Bell getting their share of rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns to bring up the score. No words exist to explain the power and speed of fullback and linebacker Jeff Reiman who was recently written about in the Sacramento Bee for his football talents. Then, when you put Charles Bell and K.C. Maxwell into the picture, you get three superstars with tremendous abilities. On top of that, Seniors Ben Sharpe and James Jiminez scored touchdowns piling the score to a whopping 52-0.

Touchdown!     However, the Titans would rally back by scoring on a quarterback draw and then on a run trying to balance the scoreboard a bit by making the score 52-16. But Burbank still had more left, they scored two more touchdowns before the game would end bringing the score up to 52-28 Jesuit. It was a hard fought game and the Varsity Jesuit Marauders would go on to an undefeated season.

Remember, next week is first round of playoffs and a must win situation for any time, because losing one game means losing the entire season. The mighty Jesuit Marauders will go up against the powerful number four ranked Yuba City squad at Jesuit on Saturday 21, 1998 at 1:00pm. Be sure to be there and support the Marauders on their journey to Section Championships by first battling Yuba City. Bring as many Jesuit fans as you can and join the Sixth Man. Go Marauders!!
