CT - Inspiration for the
Jesuit JV Football Team
by Sargon Benjamin

If you've ever been to a Junior Varsity football game this season, you would have noticed that (1) the score is usually consists of a Jesuit lead greater than 30 and (2) every player has the letters CT on the back of his Jesuit helmet. "What is CT?" is a question some of you may have asked yourselves. CT translates into Campisi - Tavalero in memory of Coach Campisi's wife and Coach Tavalero's wife. The JV team has shown leadership and unity during this year through continuing the five year undefeated winning streak for the past JV football teams and dealing with the loss of the coaches' families. Instead of being lazy during the week that Coach Campisi and Tavalero could not lead the practices, the team practiced even harder with the two coaches in their minds and Coach Harcos and Flynn were also there to back the players up. Consequently, this team has made the best they could do with a tragedy by turning it into their inspiration for going 10-0 the whole season for the coaches.

"Go Big Red!" signComing into the game 9-0 against the Burbank Titans on Saturday the 14th, the team had only one obstacle left in the season. Before the game, Father Gatto led the team in a motivational prayer and told them that they had worked extremely hard to get to where they were. With this in mind, the Marauders started the first quarter with quarterback Chris Gonzales connecting with Adam Harper for a fifteen yard touchdown. Then the Marauders' defense came onto the field and gave the Titans a dose of Jesuit football through some big hits by linebacker J.P. Howell and defensive lineman Scott Cavell. To top that off, Collin Cavanaugh blocked Burbank's punt giving Jesuit great field position twice in the game. Later in the first quarter, the phenominal running back Brett Dalton threw a 22 yard pass to receiver Chris Leary off of a flea flicker. Brett Dalton not only scored off a running touchdown into the "land of quick six" but also blocked effectively for starting tailback Philip Sanchez on a 20 yard into the end zone. When the buzzer rang for its last time for the season, the scoreboard read Jesuit 49-6 over Burbank. The JV team would go 10-0 with a great deal of help from CT. Congratulations to all the players and coaches on the JV football team!
