The following information applies to those interested in applying to Jesuit High school to be a freshman in the '99-'00 school season:

Freshman Admissions Information


Important Dates:

October 11:  JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
( 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ) - Jesuit High School Gymnasium.   Information will be available regarding curriculum, clubs and activities, athletics, and financial aid.

January 30:  CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST
( 8:30 a.m ) - Jesuit High School Placement Test.  Call Jesuit at 482-6060 any time after January 8, 1999, to reserve a test.  Testing/Application Fee: $20.00

February 7: MAKE-UP PLACEMENT TEST DATE
( 1:00 p.m. ) - Jesuit High School Gymnasium.  Please call to reserve a test.  Testing Fee: $20.00

February 20 & 21: FRESHMAN INTERVIEWS
( Times are assigned alphabetically ) - Information will be sent home with students who take the Placement Test  Deadline for students to submit recommendations, grades, and test scores (SRA, CTBS, etc.) from elementary schools.   Pastor recommendations must also be submitted at this time.

March 13: HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST SCORES SENT HOME.

March 27: ADMISSION DECISIONS SENT HOME AND TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

April 17: REGISTRATION
( 9:00 a.m. ) - Jesuit High School Gymnasium


Admissions Criteria:

  1. Recommendation of elementary school / junior high school principal, a math teacher, and an English teacher - both in terms of academic promise and character.

  2. Recommendation from pastor / religious leader regarding the family and their openness to the spiritual dimension of Jesuit.

  3. Record of elementary school grades - 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

  4. Standardized Test Scores (SRA, CTBS, etc.) - 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

  5. Freshman Interview (Parent(s) and Student) - to complete our profile of each applicant in terms of his desire to attend Jesuit, his activities, other interests, etc.

  6. The results of the Catholic High School Placement Test.


Applicant Qualifications:

In general, a freshman applicant should have the following qualifications:

  1. He should be at grade level or above grade level in all of his academic work an in his standardized test scores.  Students attending a non-Catholic school must also provide a letter of recommendation from their pastor or religious leader.

  2. He should receive a favorable recommendation from the principal, your current math teacher, and current English teacher at the school he now attends.

  3. He and his parent(s) must attend an interview conducted by one of our faculty members.  The interview dates are February 20 and 21.  Please call the Main Office to arrange for another appointment if if it is impossible to attended on the assigned date.

  4. The student should be open to growth in all areas of development, with emphasis on a Christian education, including support of and participation in school activities.

  5. Parents should be committed to providing their sons with a complete Christian education: one which fosters high moral values and spiritual development, as well as sound study habits, self-discipline, academic achievement, and leadership.


Freshman Curriculum:

English I:  Placement in a basic college preparatory or accelerated program based on test results, elementary school grades, and writing sample.

Algebra I:  Students may obtain advanced placement by taking challenge exams in Algebra I and/or Geometry - a basic course is also offered.

Global Studies:  History, Cultures, and Geography.

Foreign Language:  Spanish, French, Latin, German, and Modern Greek.  Advanced placement testing is administered at registration in April.

Fine Arts Elective / Physical Education:  Includes a Health/Safety course.  One semester each.

Theology:  One semester - Introduction to Catholic Faith.

Science:  General Science - one semester (Introduction to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and Astronomy) or Pre AP Biology.   Placement testing is administered at registration in April.


General Information:

Tuition:  $2640 per semester (1998 - 1999 school year).

Student Body Fee:  $320 (1998 - 1999 school year).

Registration Fee:  $25 (new students only).

Books / Supplies:  $200 - $300 (depending on whether books are new or used).


Note:  Tuition may be paid by the month, quarter, semester, or year.   Tuition and fees for the 1999 - 2000 school year will be announced in April by the Board of Trustees.

Financial Aid:  Each year over 125 families receive tuition assistance.  Information regarding the application procedure can be found here.
