It's All Sour Grapes To Me
by Dean Avdalas '99
NOTE: This essay does not represent the opinions
held by Jesuit High School or JHSnet. It simply represents the opinions of Dean
Avdalas. Also, any false information or grammar / spelling errors below are those of
Mr. Avdalas. His essay is published "as-is."
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Dean Avdalas and I am very upset
to read the newest article on JHS.NET. Mr. Rigopoulos has written series of articles on
this site. The newest article which has been posted on the site is very inappropriate and
unprofessional. He is attacking my personal status. He is a quote in his article: However,
last time I checked Mr. Avdalas was not president or vice-president so let me ask you Mr.
Avdalas, "What right do you have to tell JHSnet how to spend its money?" Not
even the president could tell JHSnet how to spend money given to it.
First of all, Mr. Rigopoulos, learn more about student activities
before adding them to your articles. Obviously you do not know enough to even mention this
topic. Just for you and everyone interested I will let you in on how it is run. There is
an Executive Council and then the Student Council. There are seven spots on the Executive
Council: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Intramural Commisioner, Head
Cheerleader, and Executive Court Justice. IF you remember Mr. Rigopoulos each student has
a chance to vote who they want to be in this council. Next come the student council where
that includes all the class representatives and the Executive Council. Lets use JHS.Net
for and example. They came to our meeting one friday morning to ask for money for the
site. Everybody has a vote in the student council, not just the president or vice
president. I will be honest tell you that I abstained which means that I did not vote
because I did not think this site would be running after Gio, Paul, and Sean leave. So Mr.
Rigopoulos in this situation, please learn more about your sources before adding them into
your article.
Second order of business.........
Mr. Rigopoulos had to attack my personal
status which is a dull, inapropriate, and unprofessional move. Obviously he is an amateur
writer but he should know a little better. Here is another quote from his great article:
It seems the Mr. Avdalas has taken a hypocritical view on this particular subject.
Isnt he the same student that I have seen behind the wheel of an expensive Mercedes?
If he feels that I am ruining the image of Jesuit by showcasing fast cars, maybe he should
stop doing the same and take the bus to school. Hey Dean, open mouth, insert foot! Once
again everyone has missed the point of my articles. No one said you had to be rich and
drive a fast car.
I will be honest let all the readers know
that yes I do or have driven to school an explorer, honda, 2 mercedes, and an RX-7. Let me
give you a little background Mr. Rigopoulos abou these cars. Again here comes another
example about knowing something before adding them into the article. Lets start with the
mercedes I drove sophomore year. My parents bought the car in 1981. One day I was driving
carelessly and ran into a girl who was stopped at a green light. The car was 15 years
old. The Honda belongs to my mom. It is a 1990 Honda Accord. We purchased it my seventh
grade year at an auction so pretty good price. Next comes the 1989 Mazda RX-7 Convertable
which was also bought at an auction last year. Next comes an 1986 Mercedes which was
purchased last year from a dealer. Sure when it first came out it was a very expensive
car, but when one goes and buys it when it is 12 years old I do believe that it is not the
same price where it once used to be. My next car is my current car an explorer which was
purchased after trading in a couple of cars and also get this Mr. Rigopoulos I payed half
the cost for the car with my hard earned money. Wow what???? Rich kids work? but wait I am
not labeling myself as a rich kid. I have worked the last two years at Leslies Pool
Supplys, coaching football and basketball, reffing football and basketball, and also
painting with my father. My parents came straight from Greece and they have been working
hard all their life. We are not high class, so please do not stereotype my family as a
rich family. Know the facts before writing anymore articles.
Last and Final points I would like to make
goes to the Staff of JHS.NET. This site looks great, I have viewed the guestbook and have
read many possitive notes about the site. But this kind of garbage that attacks certain
individuals personal status should not be allowed on this web site. I have not said
anything wrong to Mr. Rigopoulos. I do not go around and publicize my cars at school. It
does not matter what kind of car you drive in life it matters who you are going to be.
Where you go to school. You won't go far on what kind of car you will drive.
thank you for your time.
