Introduction
Logitech is widely know for its excellently crafted peripherals, and
their new USB mouse is no exception. This highly ergonomical is very comfortable for any
hand. It has two main buttons and a wheel in the center. The buttons click very easily,
and the wheel is VERY handy (No more moving the mouse around to scroll!). With easy to use
driver software, the mouse is highly configurable. making the wheel button double click or
just do nothing! I purchased the OEM version for a mere $20, but without the box and
instructions. You can buy the retail version for as cheap as $31, check that out here.
Setup
After installing the USB port, the entire setup was fairly simple. I
had it already plugged in so when it installed the port, it also installed the mouse. Then
I put in the disk that came with the mouse, installed the software, and restarted my
computer. The mouse software was old so I had to download new drivers to get the wheel to
work, but with the retail version it probably will have the newest drivers on the disk.
Installation was not all that great. I probably had to restart my computer 10 times and
reload the drivers in twice. BUT, it was all to get the features to work (basically the
wheel).
My USB Experience
A pretty good one. The first time around I didn't get it to work on
the machete because I didn't setup the chipset to
enable USB. But after I did windows detected the port and everything was okay. I have to
admit I like this USB because of having everything using one kind of port and having a
universal port thats fast. I fell in love with this mouse the first time I got to use it
because of the speed and accuracy. I see only good in USB, and I give it a 5 of 5
Clintons.
Who should get this mouse?
I suggest that anyone who has a USB port should get this mouse. It is
finally crafted to fit right or left handed people. The mouse supports PS/2, but why not
go with state of the art? Also makes the perfect stocking stuffer if you know the person
has a USB or PS/2 port.
Conclusion
Logitech has done an excellent job on creating a good USB mouse, and
with good drivers on their side, this mouse is superb. The standard retail price of $40 is
kind of steep for basically a USB version of the Logitech First Mouse+. The
reliability is a problem because I do have crashes every now and then when the mouse stops
functioning, but I'm sure that problem will go away after a driver revision. Taking price
and reliability in mind, I give the Logitech USB Wheel Mouse a 4 of 5 Clinton rating!
