Liturgy Stains Students and Faculty with Christ on Forehead
by Sargon Benjamin
On Wednesday February 19, numerous students entered the Jesuit High
School campus with hope and it was not because of the 40 minute classes
or the 1hour and 25minute break either. Instead, students came to school
hopeful on Wednesday February 19 because of the Ash Wednesday Liturgy.
During the Liturgy, parishoners and students are given a cross of ashes
on their forehead from the priest. This year's Ash Wednesday Liturgy was
a little bit different in that students made the sign of the cross with
ashes on the foreheads of their friends. In addition, Fr. Klein led the
mass and spoke about giving up our cravings during this Lenten Season.
Father Klein said that we should give give up things that we would not
want to give up but that we know we can live without. Upon completing
this task, he also stated that the person who can complete the
committment during the Lenten Season will become a better person. The
Liturgy ended as students and faculty received the sign of cross from
ashes on their foreheads and would wear the sign of the cross for the
rest of the day. All in all, the Ash Wednesday Liturgy turned out to be
a spiritual experience that initiated the test of giving up something we
could live without.
