The Final Response This is the last response to the issue surrounding the publications of Jesuit, specifically the Plank and JHSnet. THIS ISSUE IS DEAD. The details of why and how JHSnet and the Plank have decided not to work together are moot. We are not currently working with the Plank, nor have since the fourth week of school, inorder to "...develop better publications" (p.4, Plank writer lacks accurate information, facts by Alex Carl) as the last issue of the Plank would have you believe. The Plank, for whatever reason, did not publish Paul Blair's response to this issue and that is their right as their convenient disclaimer says, so if you would like you can read it hear on the site if you would like to. All of this could have been corrected if any of the Plank writers or editors would have come to JHSnet's Editor-in-Chief, Giovanni Fuoco (me) or my Senior Editor, Paul Blair. Instead, the writers went on assumptions and personal beliefs. A perfect example of this would be a graduate from last year, Joe Jaszewski. He wrote an article for the Plank, published in this past issue, and then he sent JHSnet a copy to use. After some talking where we clarified things, like the Plank writers and editors should have, we came to a compromise and changed some of his article. Read his revised version of " 'Publications' author speaks the whole truth" on this web site. You can access it on the main page, the link above, or in the editorials section. Then re-read his Plank article and one will be able to see what happends when a writer goes to the source for the facts, instead of assuming them or making them up. Even though Joe's article and Alex Carl's article are in the opinions section, they should not be able to make unfounded accusations and unsubstantiated statements that are clearly false or misleading, the President may be able to get away with it but Jesuit High School Plank writes, as well as JHSnet writer, should not. The Plank has had a very high standard of journalism in past years and I would hate to see that thrown out because a few writers or editors have personal grudges or wrong facts. I think we, JHSnet and the Plank, need to stop the personal attacks, publishing these internal conflicts and get back to writting about the school and its events and students. I hope we can all move past this and let cooler heads prevail. Thank you. Editor-in-Chief JHSnet, Giovanni Fuoco '99 |
