Freshman Elections
By Patrick Reynolds

UPDATE:  On November ninth, the freshmen voted to break the tie for the elections. The two candidates for Senator were Andrew Caridi and Johnny Griffin. Johnny Griffin was elected as the third senator. For the position of Court Justice, the candidates were Kyle Smith and Joseph Heredia. Kyle Smith was elected the Court Justice. Lastly for Secretary/Treasurer the candidates were Zachary Young and Blake Oliver. They tied again. The freshmen are not going to vote again. Zack and Blake are going to share the responsibilities of Secretary/Treasurer.

The freshman elections were held on November 3rd. The assembly was held prior to the actual elections. A prayer by Mr. LeBoeuf kicked off the assembly. He prayed that the Saleem poses in all his glory while in JUG.elections would go well and that all the candidates would realize that if they did lose that they shouldn't worry about it. Then the Student Body president,

Saleem Malik (right),

got up and talked about the freshman community service project. Each freshman is required to spend at least two hours collecting cans. There will also be an altar made of the cans the freshmen collect. Father Doogan walked up to the microphone and gave three reasons to contribute to the project. 1. It is important that we remember to give back during the season of giving. 2. It helps build class unity. 3. Freshmen are required to help.

There were four candidates for Court Justice. Rod Aliabadi spoke first. He said that he’d do his best. Rod said that he would be fair and make sure the freshmen’s voice would be heard. He also had experience in Student Council. He also told us that he was honest and trustworthy. Jason Bistline gave his speech after Rod. He promised he’d work hard and enforce the constitution. Joseph Heredia was up next. He said that others wouldn’t persuade him. The last of the Court Justices was Kyle Smith. He told us that he had a strong sense of fairness and that he will give 110%. He too would make sure that the freshmen’s opinions are heard and that all should be equal.

The next office was Senator. There were eight candidates. The first of the Senators was Andrew Caridi. He said that he’d make sure that everyone’s opinions are heard. Matt Chwierut was up next. He has had experience in Student Council. Matt said that he was also good in problem solving. He is also enthusiastic. Paul Coaxum II was after Matt. He told us that he would uphold the Jesuit tradition. Paul said that he is fully involved in Jesuit and has lots of school spirit. He said that he would try to have more dances and other school activities. He also added that he loves Jesuit. Johnny Griffin IV told us that he was responsible and hard working. He also told us that he was creative and intelligent. Adam Link was up after Johnny. He told us that he was hard working. Grant Nishio told us that he has had previous experience in Student Council. He said that he would do the best job that he can. Grant told us that he is a good communicator and he can explain to the rest of the student council how we feel. Shaun Ostrofe said that he is committed to doing a good job. He told us that he was a good communicator, too. Daniel Wood told us that he supports school spirit and is involved in the school. Whit Livingston was the last candidate. He was absent that day and couldn’t attend.

Secretary/Treasurer had three candidates. The first Secretary/Treasurer candidate was Angelo Christie. He said that he would make sure that the students’ voices are heard. He also said that he was good at math so he can do a good job at treasurer. Blake Oliver was up next. He gave a funny speech. He said that because he doesn’t have a social life that he has more time to help the freshmen. Zack Young was the last of the Secretaries/Treasurers. He said that he was responsible, honest, and hard working. He told us that he is good with money and that we will make sure that the Student Council hears the freshmen’s voice.

The last office was President. There were only three candidates. The first was William Tre’ Borden. He said he would try to keep the class united. He also told us that he would work for the best interests for the class. Brian Geremia was the second presidential candidate. He said that he would work hard to get the class to the best it can be. The last candidate of all was Caesar Romero. He said that he would try his best to get the student concerns heard and to lower snack bar prices.
